Electrocardiogram & Phlebotomy Technician

What is Electrocardiography?

An electrocardiogram, or ECG, is just one of the critical care tests that can save many lives each year. ECG Technicians may be the first to spot problems of the heart that might prove to be fatal if not detected through other methods. Electrocardiogram testing is a non-invasive procedure that gives the physician a clearer view of the heart in order to detect abnormalities or irregularities within the chambers, arteries, and ventricles.

What is Phlebotomy?

The main objective of a phlebotomist is to draw blood and obtain specimens promptly, efficiently, and safely from patients and clients.  Conducting routine and diagnostic testing can be the most accurate way to assess, track, and repair illnesses and diseases.  The phlebotomist plays an important role in the safety and well-being of their patients, phlebotomy technicians receive extensive training in the handling of infectious diseases and maintaining a clean and sterile environment.

Program Objectives / Job Opportunities

The ECG/Phlebotomy Technician program teaches the student techniques of performing and practicing Electrocardiograms on various ECG machines including computerized and multi channel.  Venipuncture techniques are taught using vacutainer tubes, butterfly needles and syringe methods.  Students also learn to perform capillary puncture on infants and adults.  Specimen handling, centrifuging, laboratory safety and computerized patient documentation are also taught throughout the course.  Robetech students have the advantage of working within our clinical laboratories and fully simulated practical rooms which offer a professional learning environment.

testimonial

I would like to give a big Thank You to great teachers and the staff members. Your knowledge, professionalism, understanding and support meant a great deal not only to me but to my fellow classmates. The ECG/Phlebotomy course is a hands on training, we were taught all aspects of taking blood, doing ECG's and so much more. They have an answer for every question and how to do it the right way for every possibility. I was so well prepared for my co-op placement that I was offered a job on the fourth day of my co-op training...and I loved it. Thank You so much!
